Best Dim Sum in Kuala Lumpur | My in Depth Dim Sum Analysis
Top Spice
Website: Top Spice
Location:
- Kuala Lumpur: G01-G02, Quill City Mall KL
- Ipoh: 27, Jalan Raja Dihilir, Taman Jepun 30350, Ipoh, Perak
Top Spice is one of my favorite for Dim Sum because of their reasonable prices, friendly behavior, and Halal food (not certified yet—they mentioned they’ve applied for the certificate and will get it soon). Not only that, but they also retain the original taste of Dim Sum and offer a huge collection, so you’ll definitely love most of them. Huge means huge choice, really.
They have Classic Siew Mai, Crystal Shrimp Dumplings, Ebiko Crystal Shrimp Dumplings, Shrimp Mai, Abalone Mai, Crispy Shrimp Roll, Cheese Shrimp Cake, BBQ Chicken Pao, Truffle Chicken Dumplings, Truffle Beef Dumplings, and many more.
From these, I liked the Classic Siew Mai, Beef, and Chicken Dumplings the most. Honestly, the taste was awesome because they were so soft and flavorful, which made a difference. But, honestly speaking, the rest of them were also so good.
They also have their special Snowy Mountain BBQ Bun, which has an incredible taste.
Top Spice has two outlets—one at Quill City Mall KL and another in Ipoh. So, no matter if you’re in the city or outside, you can enjoy their Dim Sum.
Lastly, Top Spice doesn’t only serve Dim Sum but also offers Chinese and Thai cuisine. So, if you go there with a budget and the mood, you can try dishes like Clay Pot Lamb Belly, Jumbo Prawns, Crabs, and much more.
Dolly Dim Sum
Website: Dolly Dim Sum
Location:
- Pavilion KL: Lot 1-102 & S1-102, Pavilion KL
- Suria KLCC: Lot 426-428, 4th Floor, Suria KLCC
Dolly Dim Sum could have been my top pick, but the price-to-flavor ratio makes it a close second. However, their offerings are undeniably delicious, with a mix of fried and steamed dim sum options.
Their menu includes Siew Mai Dumplings, Steamed Chicken Wings, Roasted BBQ Buns, Homemade Fish Balls, Spicy Chicken Feet, Crystal Prawn Dumplings, Beef Balls, Dolly Moza Rolls, Smoked Duck, and more.
The Homemade Fish Ball was a surprise for me because I’m not a fan of fish, yet it won me over with its soft, bouncy texture and subtle umami taste. The Roasted BBQ Bun was rich and smoky, with a slightly caramelized outer layer that made it irresistible.
Their Dolly Moza Roll was a flavor explosion—crispy on the outside with a savory filling that had just the right kick. And don’t miss their Signature Egg Custard Bun, which is a delightful combination of creamy, sweet custard and a soft, fluffy bun.
Overall, Dolly Dim Sum is a perfect place for those who’s wants to taste extreme Dim Sum with Breaking Pocket (Joke).
Segar Dim Sum (Café & Frozen)

If you’re someone who likes options (and who doesn’t?), Segar Dim Sum has got you covered. Whether you want to dine in or grab some frozen dim sum to cook at home, they deliver on both fronts.
Their menu offers a diverse selection of dim sum staples and creative twists. I tried their Golden Salted Egg Bun, which was an absolute delight. The bun was soft yet had just enough structure to hold the rich, buttery salted egg yolk filling that oozed out with every bite.
Their Steamed Prawn Dumplings (Har Gow) were another highlight. The translucent wrapper was perfectly thin, giving way to the juicy, tender prawns inside, which had just the right amount of natural sweetness.
Another must-try is their Crispy Shrimp Roll. The crispiness is on point, and the shrimp filling is light yet full of flavor, with hints of garlic and sesame. Pair it with their homemade chili sauce, and you’re in for a treat!

Their Charcoal Lava Bun stole the show for me. The charcoal-infused bun was soft with a slight smokiness, and the lava custard filling was creamy, silky, and not overly sweet—just heavenly.
I also couldn’t get enough of their Truffle Chicken Dumplings. The earthy aroma of the truffle complemented the tender chicken filling so well that it felt like a little burst of luxury in every bite.
And if you’re looking for something a bit lighter, their Crystal Shrimp Dumplings are a must. They’re so delicately made that they almost look too pretty to eat—almost!

I was blown away by their Steamed XO Scallop Dumplings. The silky, delicate dumpling skin encased perfectly cooked scallops that were infused with the bold, savory flavors of their house-made XO sauce. Every bite was a burst of umami goodness.
Their Charcoal Custard Bun was another highlight. The buns were pillow-soft with a subtle smokiness from the charcoal, and the filling—a golden, luscious salted egg custard—was pure indulgence.
